STOP SMOKING I came to Lyn to quit smoking. I knew it was affecting me negatively but couldn't stop. After coming here I now know I can do this and not smoke. Lyn has given me the power and confidence in myself to say NO and feel good about saying no. I am now a non-smoker and am looking forward to a happier and healthier future. * D. Melbourne Why do people continue to smoke, even though everyone knows cigarettes are not good for them? Why do people spend so much money on cigarettes? Why do people find smoking so hard to quit, even though they want to? The answer is that it is a CONSCIOUS decision to quit smoking, and therefore very difficult. I have talked about the mind being made up of two parts, the conscious and the subconscious. The conscious mind is the part we are aware of, yet only makes up about 10%. This is the part that works within our control and awareness, and relates to conscious decisions made. About 90% of the mind is subconscious, the part that consists of our entire range of experiences, over which we have little control. The reason people find it so difficult to quit is that they try to quit with the conscious control, yet habits and addictions come from the subconscious mind. When you learned to smoke it was a conscious decision, but it gradually became a habit. And like any habit, it can be changed with hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy allows you to access the subconscious, and provide you with the resources to change unwanted beliefs or habits. During your sessions you will learn: To easily release any feelings, associations and memories that have in the past kept you smoking • Not to substitute food for cigarettes, so you will not put on excess weight as a result of not smoking • To keep calm and relaxed throughout the day • To eliminate anxiety that triggers smoking • To keep to a minimum any residual cravings, so cravings will disappear very quickly (and through the hypnotic process most people experience no cravings at all) • To easily cope with being around other smokers • To change your thinking to that of a non-smoker • To find alternate behaviours that will permanently replace the smoking habit To quit smoking it is not important how heavily, how long, or how often you have smoked. IT DOES MATTER that you have a strong desire to quit. It must be your decision to quit smoking, and not your partners, your family or anyone else. Once you have decided to quit, hypnotherapy will easily allow you to quit smoking permanently. |
