Stop Smoking Why do people continue to smoke, even though everyone knows cigarettes are not good for them? Why do people find smoking so hard to quit, even though many want to? The answer is that it is a CONSCIOUS decision to quit smoking, and therefore very difficult. I have talked about the mind being made up of two parts, the conscious and the subconscious. The conscious mind is the part we are aware of, yet only makes up about 10%. This part of the mind works within our control and awareness. About 90% of the mind is the subconscious, which consists of our entire range of experiences, and over which we have little control. The reason people find it so difficult to quit is that they try to quit with conscious control, yet habits and addictions come from the subconscious. When you learned to smoke it was a conscious decision, but it gradually became a habit. And like any habit, it can be changed with hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy allows you to access the subconscious, and provides you with the resources to change unwanted beliefs and habits. During your sessions I will give you suggestions: • To keep you calm and relaxed during the day. • To easily cope with being around other smokers. • To remove the anxiety that causes you to smoke. To keep to a minimum any residual cravings, so cravings will disappear very quickly (and through the hypnotic process many people experience no cravings at all). To find alternative behaviours that replace your smoking habit. It DOES NOT MATTER how heavily, or how long you have been smoking. IT DOES MATTER that you have a strong desire to quit. It must be YOUR decision to quit smoking, and not your partners, your family or anyone else. Once you have decided to quit, hypnotherapy will easily allow you to quit smoking permanently.
